Assault and Battery on Law Enforcement Officers Increasing

Cabrera

On June 6 at 6:06AM, officers responded to the intersection of Jefferson Davis Hwy. and Bel Air Rd. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle with significant damage that was still running and in gear. The driver, later identified as the accused, refused to exit the vehicle. While investigating, officers determined that the accused was intoxicated and located an open container of alcohol in her vehicle. When officers attempted to detain the accused, she actively resisted and refused to follow officer’s commands. After a brief struggle, the accused was taken into custody without further incident. During the encounter, the accused pushed and struck an officer. The accused was transported to an area hospital for further processing and evaluation. No injuries were reported by the officer. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Evelyn Areli CABRERA, was arrested.

Salguero-Orellana

On May 25 at 8:59AM, officers responded to the 16800 block of Toms River Lp. in Dumfries (22026) to investigate an individual interfering with a vehicle being lawfully towed. While investigating, a man, later identified as the accused, was observed by officers moving the tow truck driver’s equipment. Officers intervened and the accused refused to follow officer’s commands and struck an officer. At that point, the accused was told he was under arrest while continuing to disregard the officer’s commands. After a brief struggle, the accused was taken into custody. During the encounter, the accused struck one officer and grabbed another. Minor injuries were reported by both of the officer’s and the accused. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Carlos Enrique SALGUERO ORELLANA, was arrested.

Genova

On May 29 at 3:09PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 1900 block of Winslow Ct. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a burglary. The homeowner reported to police that he was inside his residence when he observed an acquaintance, identified as the accused, take rocks, and begin to force entry into his home through the sliding glass door. The homeowner retreated into another room and contacted the police. The investigation revealed that the accused made entry into the home and took an undisclosed amount of money and property before fleeing. There was no contact between the homeowner and the accused. While canvassing, officers observed the accused nearby and when they attempted to detain him, the accused fled on foot. The accused refused to follow officer’s commands and after a short foot pursuit, the officers made contact with the accused where the accused continued to actively resist being taken into custody. During the altercation, the accused pushed the officer and attempted to take his Electronic Restraint Device before the accused struck and bit the officer. Additional officers arrived at the location and the accused was taken into custody without further incident. During the investigation, officers were approached by a resident of a home located in the 1700 block of Powder Horn who stated that the accused had forced entry into his home. The investigation into the second incident revealed that the accused shattered the rear sliding glass door of the residence before pouring gasoline on the floor. The second incident is being investigated by investigators with the Department of Fire & Rescue, Fire Marshal’s Office. Minor injuries were reported by the officer. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Carlo Peter GENOVA, was arrested.

Charged with 1 counts of burglary with intent to cause arson, 1 count of burglary with intent to commit larceny, 1 count of property damage, 1 count of attempted disarming of a LEO, 1 count of assault & battery on LEO, and 2 counts of obstruction of justice

Dunkerson

On June 28 at 1:45AM, officers conducted a vehicle stop on Prince William Pkwy near Old Bridge Rd. in Woodbridge (22192) for a driver who was unable to maintain their lane. During the encounter, the driver, later identified as that accused, was yelling and acting disorderly on the side of the road before she struck an officer with a pen. When officers attempted to take the accused into custody she actively resisted and refused to follow officer’s commands. A brief struggle ensued where the accused struck and kicked officers before she was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported by the officers. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Kayla Ri’Chard DUNKERSON, was arrested.

Charged with 2 counts of assault & battery on LEO, 1 count of disregarding a red signal, 1 count of failure to maintain lane control, and 1 count of expired registration
