One man has been charged in connection with a shooting that injured a 9-year-old girl in Woodbridge last month, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Authorities said they are still looking to identify other suspects who were involved in the original shooting.

Wilson Doswell IV, a Dumfries resident, was arrested on Tuesday, July 27. He is now being held without bond at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center.

On Tuesday, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force said they saw Doswell and another man entering a vehicle in Dumfries. “The two men were detained without incident,” the police department said in an incident report.

Authorities claimed that they found a firearm in Doswell’s possession when he was taken into custody. The other man also had a concealed gun, police said.

Doswell

Doswell is charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of using a firearm in commission of a felony, one count of reckless handling of a firearm, and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling. His court date is scheduled for Sept. 16.

Doswell was one of several suspects who were wanted by police in connection with the shooting outside of the Riverwood Apartment complex in June. The remaining suspects have not been identified, police said.

The only person who reported injuries in the shooting was a 9-year-old girl who was grazed by a bullet, police said. She was treated at the scene. Authorities said she was inside a nearby apartment went two groups outside exchanged gunfire.

Doswell was arrested in 2018 on gun and drug charges are police found 3.4 pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a loaded handgun and more than $6,000 in cash following a traffic stop.

Due to a law recently passed by Virginia Democrats prohibiting police from searching vehicles for marijuana after being pulled over for a separate infraction, Doswell would not have been charged for the drug possession had he been pulled over today.

Anyone who can help identify any of the remaining suspects is encouraged to contact the Prince William County Police Department’s tipline at 703-792-7000. Tips can also be submitted online.
