Following a directive last year by Supervisor Vega to look into the creation of a Transportation Commission to study and review transportation projects the Prince William County Planning Commission decided to tackle this issue head on and will add bi-monthly transportation work sessions to their scope of work.
Long an advocate for the necessity of looking at transportation and land use decisions harmoniously, Supervisor Vega was pleased with the decision to put this in the planning commission’s hands. “Whether through a stand-alone commission or as part of the planning commission’s purview I’m glad that we’ve taken this important step to more closely examine two issues that are inextricably linked, but that we’ve oftentimes treated as separate. For the most part, I believe our current planning commission has done an excellent job with their land use recommendations to us and I’m confident they’ll bring a common-sense view and steady hand in advising us on our transportation projects as well.”
As we’ve seen over the last year the Board majority does not always follow the planning commission’s advice, but their recommendations still play a valuable role in the county’s public discourse.
The following Transportation work sessions have been scheduled for 2021:
June 16, 2021
September 15, 2021
November 24, 2021
Transportation work sessions will be scheduled in 2022 on the third Wednesday in January, March, May, July, September, and November.
