According to information obtained from Potomac Local, the Virginia Railway Express remained nearly 90% off from its June-July 2019 ridership.

During a FY2022 budget session presentation, Supervisor Vega critiqued the amount of taxpayer funds still subsidizing VRE, which was down in ridership by 95% at the time. It was stated that by the end of June 2022 that VRE ridership would be back to 50% of June 2019 levels.
